This post is directly connected to my Baby Cthulhu sticker set. I’ll share some information about it, the process how I created it, and most of all I want to show you how you can use the Baby Cthulhu sticker set. There’s so many possibilities, but I’m gonna show you a few of them.
What is this sticker set and why Cthulhu?
Let’s start with why Cthulhu? For those who don’t know what, or actually who, Cthulhu is:
Cthulhu is a fictional cosmic entity created by writer H. P. Lovecraft. It was introduced in his short story “The Call of Cthulhu”, published by the American pulp magazine Weird Tales in 1928. Considered a Great Old One within the pantheon of Lovecraftian cosmic entities, this creature has since been featured in numerous pop culture references. Lovecraft depicts it as a gigantic entity worshipped by cultists, in the shape of a green octopus, dragon, and a caricature of human form. The Lovecraft-inspired universe, the Cthulhu Mythos, where it exists with its fellow entities, is named after it.
I don’t remember first time i heard of him, but I always thought he’s a very interesting creature. He’s a big figure in culture and arts, if you don’t know much about him I recommend getting familiar with the whole universe that Lovecraft created.
So why Cthulhu? Simply because I like merging the opposites. My favorite spooky cute style is exactly that, a merge between what’s spooky, creepy, sometimes ugly, dark, terrible and what’s cute, sweet, humble, good, light, pretty. That’s why i mixed the Great Old of the Underneath with with cute baby animals. And i think the result is adorable with a bit of my beloved darkness.
As for what this sticker set is – it’s a set of 9 spooky cute digital stickers that you can use to decorate stuff, use in your planners, journals or calendars, in scrapbooks, junk journals or whatever you thing is. Use them digitally or print out on sticker paper and use as regular stickers.
Baby Cthulhu sticker set drawing process
These baby Cthulhu pet charachters were sitting in my mind for quite a while, but I wasn’t sure how I wanted them to look until I started sketching. After I finally started sketching I quickly realized I want them to look more cute than scary, that’s why they got big heads and round shapes (I used a set of brushes that help a lot with that). But of course they have to be a little spooky too, that’s why on top of being a Cthulhu they got those big empty eyes.
Next step is color blocking, shading and adding details. I’m not sure if my drawing process is “correct” or any different than others. I’m self taught so I just go intuitively and how I think will work. If that’s interesting to you please let me know, I’ll try to share more of my process in social media and here on my website.
How to use them in digital planners and journals?
Nowadays you can add your own PNG files as a sticker to almost any program or app dedicated for digital planners. One way or another you can add image files to them. This set contains 9 separate PNGs with transparent background so they look like real stickers and will give you real joy of putting a sticker into your planner (who doesn’t like that right?).
There’s also a sheet of all stickers together so you can easily trace around and copy it to the exact place you want it. There’s various ways off adding the stickers to your chosen planner app. Some of them, like GoodNotes -which I like to use – will let you organize them into sticker collections. You can add them manually to the collection or use the .collection file that is also a part of the set.
Print out, cut out and use in real planners
My baby Cthulhu sticker ser is also ready to be printed out and ussed in real journals, planners, scrap books or anywhere your imagination will lead you. There’s few ways to do it:
- Print them on normal paper, cut out with scissors or cutting machine and stick them on using glue or tape
- Print them on sticker paper, cut out with scissors or cutting machine and stick on where you want them
PNG files are perfect to be used with cutting machines like Cricut or Silhouette (and probably others, but I don’t have experience with any others).
Use them in scrap booking, as decorations etc
Only your imagination is the limit for using baby Cthulhu sticker set. They can be used as decoration, in your junk journal, diaries, project life albums, cards, scrap bookings and lots more. Just put them in places you want to add a bit of a spooky cute vibe 😉
