Licenses can be confusing, I get it.
But it’s necessary to know exactly what you can and can’t do with the file you’re getting. A license will tell you that exactly. There are many types of licenses but here on BlackMuffinDigital I use 3 types of them:
I will describe each one individually for you
Personal Use License
Personal use means you can use the item in your personal projects that are not intended for any gain of profit.
you can:
- create cards, t-shirts, mugs, banners etc. for personal use, as a gift or just casual use
- use it digitally for your own purpose for example as digital planner stickers etc.
- print it to use in personal project or educational non profit purpose
- use it in your private social media (it would be nice if you tagged my accounts, but its not necessary)
- use it in personal journal, photo albums, planners etc.
- use it for your private party or wedding arrangement
you can’t:
- resell or redistribute the item as is
- create any products (neither physical nor digital) for sell, even if you change it
- pass it to anyone else in digital form
- use it commercially in social media, for example in advertisement or any brand accounts
- use it in any way that brings you direct or indirect profit
- use it in any commercial ebook even if its distributed for free
- use it in your profesional work (ex. graphic design, marketing, wedding and party profesional arrangement etc.)
Basically, as long as its private use and there’s no direct or indirect profit – you’re good to use it. If you’re still not sure about it – contact me!
Commercial Use License
Commercial use means you can use the item in your commercial projects that are intended for gain of profit. But it’s important to change the item significantly.
you can:
- create your own designs with significantly changed item for digital or physical products for sell like: cards, t-shirts, mugs, banners etc. if you make the end product yourself
- use it commercially in social media, for example in advertisement or brand accounts
- use it in commercial ebook
- use it in educational projects
- use it for profesional party or wedding arrangement (for party or wedding planners)
- everything described in Personal Use license
you can’t:
- resell or redistribute the item as is
- use POD services to create any products for sell
- pass it to anyone else in digital form
- print it as is on cards and sell in physical form
- use it in your profesional work (ex. graphic designers, marketing, book publishers, as logo or in brand identity etc.) nor for big quantities*
The key to my Commercial use license is “significant change” to the design. It means that you have to put work into it. Change of colors, adding simple frame or a slogan, adding one other element is not enough. That’s just slight change.
Extended Commercial Use License
Extended Commercial use gives you the same rights as Commercial use plus a few important more. Means you can use the item in your commercial projects that are intended for gain of profit. But it’s important to change the item significantly.
you can:
- everything described in Commercial Use license
- use POD services to create any products for sell
- use it in your profesional work (ex. graphic designers, marketing, book publishers, as part of logo or in brand identity etc.) for big quantities*
you can’t:
- resell or redistribute the item as is
- pass it to anyone else in digital form
- print it as is on cards and sell in physical form
Under any license you need to change the item significantly (look at Commercial Use license description). But with Extended version youre allowed to sell big quantites of your end product and use POD services as well.
